Terms of service

Last updated September 2026

These terms cover your use of MapAlert. Please read them before asking us for a lead. If anything here is unclear, ask us and we will explain it in plain words.

How to reach us

You can reach us at hello@mapalert.co.uk or on 0333 070 4393. If anything here is unclear, ask and we will explain it.

What the service is

We watch what customers publish about businesses within an area you choose, and pick out those describing a problem your trade can fix — a dirty premises, a pest, a failed heating or cooling system. When we find one, we send it to you as a lead: the business, where it is, how to contact it, and what the customer said.

The area and the trade we cover for you are set when you start and can be changed by asking us. Leads are sent as we find them, not on a schedule.

Where leads come from

Every lead comes from feedback a customer has chosen to publish about a business. Nothing comes from the business itself, nothing is private, and nothing is obtained by any means a member of the public could not use.

We do not tell you who wrote the feedback, and we will not. The lead is the business with the problem; the identity of the person who wrote about it is their own affair and forms no part of what we sell.

What we do not promise

We do not promise a particular number of leads in any week, or in any month. How many complaints appear in an area varies, and some periods are quieter than others. This is precisely why you pay for each lead rather than for a subscription: a quiet week costs you nothing.

We cannot promise that a business we send you wants the work, will answer you, or will admit to the problem described. We also cannot promise the problem still exists when you call: we can tell you when the complaint was published, never when the problem began or whether it has since been fixed.

We read every lead before sending it, but we are reading the same words you are. A complaint can read worse — or better — than the situation turns out to be.

Your first lead is free

The first lead we send you costs nothing and carries no obligation. No payment details are needed to receive it, and if you do not want another you need do nothing at all.

Price, paying and stopping

Leads are £10 each. There is no subscription, no minimum, no setup fee and no contract to end. You are invoiced for the leads you have accepted, and you can stop receiving them at any time by telling us.

If a lead is no good, tell us and you do not pay for it. That covers a business outside your area, a complaint that is not about your trade, a business that has closed, and a complaint old enough that it is no longer worth a call.

Prices are exclusive of any tax that may apply. Where the reverse charge applies to a business customer, you account for it.

Exclusivity

A lead is sold once. When we send you a lead we do not sell that same complaint to another firm in your trade, so the business you contact has not already heard from your competitors about it.

Using what we send you

A lead is for your own business. You may share it inside your organisation and act on it however you like. You may not resell it, republish it, or pass it to another firm.

When you contact a business we have sent you, you are responsible for doing so lawfully, including under the rules that apply to unsolicited marketing. You are also responsible for what you say. We ask that you do not quote the customer's words back to the business or present the complaint as the reason for your call — it rarely lands well and it reflects on us as well as on you.

Availability

We aim to send leads promptly and to keep the service running, but we cannot guarantee it is uninterrupted. We may change how the service works, and we will tell you if a change affects what you receive.

Liability

We are liable to you only for losses we cause by failing to take reasonable care. We are not liable for business you do not win, for how a business responds to you, or for any loss arising from how you choose to use a lead. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Our total liability to you in any twelve month period is limited to the amount you have paid us in that period.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will tell you before it applies to leads you receive after that.
